Thanks so much for the tutorial. Would it ever be appropriate to create a thread where we share our Substacks, too? I'd love to follow Secret Stuffer's Substacks.

Yes! Let's do it in the chat.

Ty! I just added the url so I can listen once again in overcast. I really need to start using the app more and dive in! Thanks for the tutorial. It’s really helpful.

So glad it was helpful to you!

Thank you for this tutorial!!! You’re the first creator (at least of the ones I’m subscribed to) who’s done a complete breakdown like this. It’s super appreciated. I didn’t know why I was getting emails about posts from people I’d never heard of. Lol

I have a question in regards to the recordings. On symposium nights, if it’s already understood that the replay will be available afterwards, why cut anything out for privacy? Everyone who speaks knows that it’s being recorded so isn’t that the same as agreeing to have it shared with the group as a whole? I know I’m not the only one who sometimes just cannot attend, such as if I’m at work or sick. (I have some chronic health issues and frequently end up napping at random - and inconvenient - times.) You could edit out the name, I suppose, but if they’re choosing to say things to an entire large group on camera, when they know it’s recorded, I don’t see why it would be removed from the recording that the rest of SS members get.

Fair question about Symposium, but I have two answers: The first is though although you're technically right that members know it's being recorded from the get-go, the conversations that happen in Secret Stuff meetings are organic and real. So people often get caught up in what is being shared and forget about the recording aspect. (Or they think about it later and have regrets.) The Secret Stuff meetings aren't like podcast recordings, where it's the INTENT for the conversation to be public...the Secret Stuff recordings are replayed as a courtesy to members. The realness is in attending live.

Which brings me to the second reason - there's an advantage to being there live. Everything that happens in the chat among members (arguably the best part of the meetings) and then things that are said that will be cut out of the main recording. Even *I* have said things in Secret Stuff meetings that we've cut out of the recording. That's the incentive to being there live, you just never know what's going to happen.

I do understand that not everyone can attend live because of schedules and time zones and life, but there has to be an incentive for people to come to the meetings.

Here is where I feel like an idiot: I can’t manage subscriptions on my phone, but I listen to all of my podcasts in overcast. So how do I get the link to add the RSS feed into overcast, if I can’t manage the subscription on my phone?

Laura Tremaine's avatar

Yes, you can set up the podcast subscription from your phone, but you can't manage your settings from your phone.

You would go into Settings, scroll down past your profile to where you see your subscriptions, and click on Secret Stuff. It should take you to something that looks like a landing page. You’ll scroll down to the bottom and see where it says “set up (or maybe follow or manage) podcast.” Click on that and it will walk you through how to add it to your Overcast app. Don’t feel like an idiot!! They don’t make this stuff easy to follow. ❤️ This part you can do on your phone. I almost forgot to say that.

Wow! I've learned so many things. It wouldn't have occurred to me that there are so many more features that are only available if you log on with a computer. Also, now I know why I get so many messages from accounts I did not consciously subscribe too. 😄
